How we approach ADHD at Healing Waves Counselling

At Healing Waves Counselling we approach adult ADHD differently. We do not focus on homework, worksheets, or suggestions simply because it does not work for the ADHD brain.

What we do focus on is how adult ADHD impacts the person and the people around them. How does ADHD impact the client's work, relationships, communication, friendships,... We look at emotional regulation, executive functioning, people-pleasing, sensory overload, boundary setting, rejection sensitivity, impulsive behavior, etc. Adult ADHD in women specifically is often underdiagnosed as women are

We look at how the ADHD brain needs to process the conversation. Often clients are not able to respond right away because it takes some time to sit with what a person has just told them, they need to take that in, and process it, before being able to respond.

People with ADHD are significantly more likely to have other mental health diagnoses, for example, depression, anxiety, OCD, and bipolar disorder.

We can help clients navigate the diagnostic process, accessing accommodations where available, and working closely with clients as they begin the process of finding the right medication at the right dosage.
